STEM Tutor

Requirements

STEM Tutors not only teach STEM projects, they can also be called on to teach academic skills, as well as serve as mentors and coaches, encouraging and guiding students throughout the school year.

Responsibilities

• Learn and tailor curriculum for STEM as needed

• Perform/Lead team-based activities using STEM kits at the center

• Track and analyze student progress

• Keep detailed records of tutoring sessions using Student Progress Records and/or relevant forms.

• Work closely with the Center Program Director to meet students’ academic goals

• Tutor recommends additional lessons to meet student needs.

• Performs administrative and team-based activities as needed.

• Will also tutor other subjects as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with some related college credits required

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred

• Strong technical and math skills required

• Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, self-direction, and creativity.

• Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills.

• Exhibits professionalism.

• Maintains excellent working relationships with staff, volunteers and public.

• Must be able to commit to working the full extent of the program (Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00pm-700pm Sept-May)

• Being punctual is extremely important

• Must be able to demonstrate ability to work with people from diverse racial/cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Candidate must be legally able to work in the united states

• Ideal Candidate

• College student, retired teacher or other retired/working professional

• Anyone with the time and skillset who wants to make a positive impact on a young persons life

• Experience working with school age children

• Teaching / tutoring experience

Time Commitment:

• Commit to 2.5 hours a day twice a week for the full academic year

• Must be able to commit to Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:45pm-7:15pm (Sept-May)

Compensation

• $25-$35 per hour depending on experience.
