About the Role
Tutors will assist the math instructor during classroom hours. Tutors may also aide in facilitating lesson plans, working with small groups of students, coaching students that are in need of additional support, and transitioning students from computer instruction to other planned activities. Additional duties will include assisting with breakfast and lunch and classroom setup and cleanup.
Responsibilities
Working with groups of students, you will be responsible for leading instruction and motivating students to be successful
Provide general homework assistance and more intensive single/multi-subject tutoring as needed
Work one on one with participants as needed
Help participants to understand the activity
Model how to do the activity
Support participants during transition periods from one activity to the next
Monitor participants during free time activities
Promote and stimulate program participation
Assist youth with goal setting and skills development
Motivate students of all ages to excel academically and develop a love of education
Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging for young people
Ensure student safety by assisting in set up, break down, and ongoing maintenance in an effort to keep the study or community site clean and orderly
Identify student needs and communicate to Site Director and/or Lead tutor as appropriate
Establish and maintain rapport with the participants, instructors, and parents

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred
High school diploma with some college credit required
Strong math and english skills
Demonstrates a high degree of initiative, self-direction, and creativity.
Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills.
Exhibits professionalism.
Maintains excellent working relationships with staff, volunteers and public.
Must be able to demonstrate ability to work with people from diverse racial/cultural/socioeconomic backgrounds.
Must be able to commit to working the full extent of the program (Monday thru Friday July 1- Aug 2 8:45am to 3:00pm)
Being punctual is extremely important

About the Company
CSU Summer Algebra Institute (SAI), is a FREE five week study designed by California State University to improve college readiness in the area of mathematics. This is a limited opportunity for a select few students and the only host site in the entire Silicon Valley area able to offer this with a direct link to the CSU Chancellor's office. The Summer Algebra Institute program aligns with CSU’s ambitious Graduation Initiative 2025 goals that aim to increase graduation rates for all CSU students while eliminating equity gaps. We work in conjunction with them to bring this amazing summer program to families in our community.
